Themes and Skins

Blog: "Comfort and Joy"

"Comfort and Joy" is a Wordpress blog that I maintain. I wrote a custom theme for it with the intent of conveying playfulness, youth, and warmth, but without any visual implications of Christmas (since the name is taken from a familiar Christmas carol).

The actual blog can be seen at http://comfort-and-joy.net.

Technically, the theme was implemented as a variation on the default Wordpress theme ("Kubrick"), since the structural features of my designed theme were very similar. Also, I wanted to maintain Kubrick's completeness, browser independence, and accessibility features; and I didn't want to write a theme from scratch!

Design Exercise: CSS Zen Garden

The CSS Zen Garden is a showcase for artists to demonstrate their wizardry with CSS and graphic design. While I am not a CSS wizard by any means, I used their sample HTML to design a look that I hadn't yet seen on the Garden. This design, "Window Seat," is based on a photograph that I took from a plane years ago. It was assembled layer-by-layer in Photoshop.
